In 2003 the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted probably the most popular prospect in NBA history out of Akron. LeBron may be known for his no look passes but even more for his what I like to call sports center dunks. I’m saying this because for the life of me I can’t understand now 9 years in he still hasn’t entered the NBA All Star competition Slam Dunk Contest.
Take a look at LeBron career so far and ask yourself a few questions. He had the best regular seasons with the Cavaliers in back to back seasons but still left. Was he afraid he couldn’t win the big one by himself? The past fourth quarter post season when the spotlight was on him he couldn’t finish. Was he afraid of too much attention on himself?
If he plays the game for the fans LeBron should compete in what the fans love about his game DUNKS!!! I mean Jordan, Wilkins, Dr J, Howard, Carter and Kobe all competed at least on time in their career. LeBron has even made promises later to renege to compete in competition.
Can you imagine a Dunk contest with Griffin, James, Wade and Kobe all at the same time? It should not be so hard to make this happen. The bottom line is LeBron might be afraid of losing the competition and what that would do with his brand. I think choking out late in the playoffs dampers your brand more than anything.
I am a huge fan of LeBron James game but I sometime question his heart. I’m tired of watching the ESPN dunks. I want to see James do this when the likes of Wilkins and Jordan are sitting as judges. It’s a shame LeBron James could possibly end his career without a championship or a perfect score for a Slam Dunk!!!
